Flying carpet

‘Festival’ contains the word 'Fest', which is German for ‘celebration': so Hanover's Theaterformen Festival welcomes spectators to come and celebrate in the courtyard between the Schauspielhaus and Künstlerhaus. We designed a flying carpet that provides a roof and joins the courtyard's concert stage to the Cumberlandsche Gallery.
The carpet conjures up the exotic, the different; it stands for thousands of stories, for departure and desire. But carpets are also cosy, and represent a space where people come together. This covering protects guests from the rain, while keeping the space open and summery.
